  • Truck Description
I did a phone interview with a firefighter who drove this truck in Maryland. The truck had no air conditioning. The acceleration was alright, and it would build up momentum in a normal way; it stopped good. All the maintenance was done on the truck according to the proper schedule and the ladder and other peripherals worked fine. It felt comfortable to drive and turned very well, despite the fact it was pretty long. Six firefighters could fit inside the cab, and one could sit outside. The truck was sold because the supervisors felt the mileage was getting up there, but there was really nothing wrong with the truck.

Apparatus Information

  • Changes in NFPA in 1991 significantly increased fire fighter's safety when operating a fire truck. Buying a used fire apparatus newer than this year will bring those safety features into your firehouse as well. The enclosed cab which was required in 1991 and forward brought fire fighters out of the elements of weather, and into the safety of the fire apparatus cab.

  • Seagrave, founded by Fredric Seagrave in Detroit, Michigan in 1881, is the oldest continuous manufacturer of fire apparatus in the United States. The company moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1891 and remained there until 1963. In 1963 Seagrave moved all operations to Clintonville, Wisconsin. FWD was founded in 1909 by Otto Zachow and William Besserdich in Clintonville, Wisconsin. It became a premier manufacturer of severe chassis and produced America's first all-wheel drive chassis.
