  • Truck Description
This fire truck was used by the US Navy Air-nautical unit at Whiting Field in Florida as a crash, fire fighting, rescue truck. We purchased this truck as government surplus, for use on our 640 acre ranch in east central Arizona. It is in great working condition. Even tho the original tires had 50% rubber on them, we replaced all 4 tires with new rubber in addition, we replaced one hydraulic pump. Otherwise, the truck was maintained by us & has been keep up very well. I doubt if we have put more than 40 entire hours on it during the short period of our ownership. We are selling the truck due to our ranch being included in a nearby fire district.

Apparatus Information

  • Amertek Inc. was a Canadian fire apparatus manufacturer located in Woodstock, Ontario. Amertek was formed in 1985 and closed in 1993. They operated from the manufacturing facilities of King-Seagrave and continued production of King's CM-1 chassis. A few CM-1s built by Amertek were used by Superior Emergency Vehicles and Thibault to build trucks for municipal customers. Amertek built hundreds of crash tenders for the United States military. Dozens of tenders were also built for Transport Canada for use at Canadian airports and ten crash trucks were delivered to the Egyptian military. They also built a small number of municipal fire trucks. The US military trucks were built at a loss and Amertek was unable to withstand the financial hit. Investors in the company sued the Canadian government, which played a role in securing the contract, for misrepresenting the risks. The investors were awarded damages in 2003 but the judgement was overturned in 2005.

  • Changes in NFPA in 1991 significantly increased fire fighter's safety when operating a fire truck. Buying a used fire apparatus newer than this year will bring those safety features into your firehouse as well. The enclosed cab which was required in 1991 and forward brought fire fighters out of the elements of weather, and into the safety of the fire apparatus cab.
